Playing Soccer Helps Make Strong Bones
May 15th, 2008 by Tom Cobb
I read an article about a study done on bone density in girls in their pre-teens and teens. They were in groups of swimmers, weightlifters and soccer players. They found that bone density was higher in those that played soccer. Doctors believe that the impact sports are what help with the bone density, helping to build bone mass. The load on the bone is increased when playing soccer and that’s what stimulates bone production. The teenage years are the best time for building calcium and bone density is at it’s peak in the 30s. Doctors say it’s very important to give your children calcium early.
