Broccoli Sprouts May Fight Germs
April 17th, 2009 by Tom Cobb
The New York Times had a health article talking about a small study that was done involving broccoli sprouts and how they may be able to fight a germ that can cause peptic ulcers associated with stomach cancer. In the study 50 people infected with the germ Helicobacter pylori and put them into two groups. Over the course of eight weeks one group had 2.5 ounces of the sprouts and the other, and equal amount of alfalfa sprouts. The results showed that those who had the broccoli sprouts had much lower levels of infection. Researchers are happy about the results but want to do more testing. This just shows how a shift in dietary habits can have large effects.
